Christmas Posting Dates 2026 for eBay and Amazon Sellers: Work Out Your Real Cut-Off
Author: Prolisto Team · Published: · 8 min read

The Christmas posting dates on the carriers' posters are the last day they accept a parcel for delivery before Christmas. They are not the last day you can promise Christmas delivery to a buyer. Between those two dates sit your handling time, a December order rush that can be several times your normal volume, and staff who choose the busiest week of the year to catch a cold.
This guide gives you the carriers' last recommended posting dates for Christmas 2026, then shows you how to turn them into your own cut-off, what to change on eBay and Amazon, and how to get through the four days with no collections after Christmas Day. There's a printable one-page version for the packing bench at the end.
What are the last posting dates for Christmas 2026?
Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday. These are the latest recommended posting dates for Christmas delivery, as published by eBay UK for the carriers most sellers use (dates as of October 2026).

Carriers can change these dates, so check your own carrier's service updates in December. For international parcels, Royal Mail and Parcelforce publish separate, much earlier dates on Royal Mail's Christmas page.
Why the carrier's date isn't your deadline
A last posting date assumes the parcel is packed, labelled and handed over on that day. In December, getting it there is the hard part.
- Volume jumps. Across the sellers we work with, December orders grow by anything from 7% to 300%, depending on the category they sell in.
- Staff don't. You have the same team, or a few temporary helpers who don't know where anything is yet. And someone always calls in sick in the week before Christmas.
- Packing falls behind. A packing bench that keeps up in October can't when orders double or triple. Orders placed on Thursday go out on Friday or Saturday, and that's when 48-hour services stop.
So the question isn't "what's Royal Mail's last date?" but "what's the last order I can take and still get to that date?"
How to work out your real cut-off
Work backwards from the carrier's date for each service you offer:
Your cut-off = the carrier's last posting date − your handling time − one extra day for untracked services
A worked example for Royal Mail 48:
- The carrier's last recommended posting date is Friday 18 December.
- Your normal handling time is 1 working day, so an order placed on Thursday 17 December would go out on Friday 18 December.
- Untracked services get at least one extra day in December, because there's no tracking to show a delayed parcel was posted on time.
- Your last safe order date for Christmas delivery on Royal Mail 48 is therefore Wednesday 16 December.

Do the same sum for every service you offer, then put the earliest date on your listings. Buyers don't read postage tables; they read "Order by 16 December for Christmas delivery".
Tracked services are more reliable over Christmas, and tracking protects you if a buyer says a parcel never arrived. Even so, don't promise more than the carrier does. A buyer who was told "probably after Christmas" and gets the parcel on 23 December is happy; a buyer who was promised the 23rd and gets it on the 24th is not.
The Christmas collection gap: Friday 25 to Monday 28 December
This year the calendar is unkind. Christmas Day is a Friday and Boxing Day falls on Saturday, so the Boxing Day bank holiday moves to Monday 28 December (UK bank holidays). Plan for no collections from Friday 25 to Monday 28 December.
That means the first collection after Christmas, normally on Tuesday 29 December, carries four days of orders: Christmas Eve's late orders, plus everything bought with Christmas money and gift cards over the weekend. It's hard on sellers and on the couriers, who have to plan routes for a sudden wall of parcels.

To get through it:
- Plan the team for 29 December now. It's often busier than any day before Christmas.
- Stock up on packaging. Boxes, mailers, labels and ink run out fast after a long weekend.
- Print labels in batches as orders come in over the holiday, so Tuesday is about packing, not admin.
- Check your carrier's collection days. Collection times can change around bank holidays, and New Year's Day on Friday 1 January 2027 creates a second, shorter gap.
What to change on eBay
eBay says it adjusts estimated delivery dates on listings in line with the carriers' recommended posting dates for Christmas. It can only work with the handling time you give it, though, so this part is on you.
- Add handling time to untracked services. Increase it by at least one day in December, so the estimated delivery date buyers see is one you can meet. Do it in your postage (shipping) policies, which updates every listing that uses them.
- Stop offering services you can't deliver in time. After your cut-off for 48-hour services, buyers who need Christmas delivery should see a 24-hour or Special Delivery option, or nothing that promises the 24th.
- Say it in your listings and shop. A line such as "Order by 16 December for Christmas delivery (Royal Mail 48)" answers the question before buyers have to message you.
- Use Time Away only if you close. If you're still dispatching, just more slowly, extend your handling time instead. Time Away is for days when you can't dispatch at all.
- Pause promotions you can't fulfil. Promoted Listings and sales bring extra orders, which is the last thing you need in the week your team is stretched.
Late dispatch counts against your seller performance, and parcels that arrive after Christmas turn into "item not received" cases. If one does, our guide to eBay "item not received" claims explains how to protect yourself.
What to change on Amazon
Amazon works from the handling time on your listings and shipping templates in the same way. Add time to slower services before the rush, and use Amazon's holiday settings if you close for a few days. Our guide to Amazon holiday settings for Christmas walks through each option.
What to do with orders after your cut-off
Keep taking them. Orders placed after your cut-off still go out on the next working day; they just won't arrive before Christmas. What matters is that the buyer knows it.
- Tell them straight away, not when they chase you on the 23rd.
- Offer a faster service if one is still possible, such as Tracked 24 up to Monday 21 December or Special Delivery up to Wednesday 23 December.
- Keep it short and honest. For example:
Thanks for your order. It will be dispatched tomorrow with Royal Mail 48, so it's likely to arrive after Christmas. If you need it sooner, reply to this message and we'll upgrade it to a faster service where we can.
More ready-made replies are in our eBay message templates for sellers.

How Prolisto helps at peak
Prolisto is built for the weeks when orders outrun people. At Christmas it helps you to:
- Print every label in one batch. Prolisto connects directly to Royal Mail (Click & Drop and the ProShipping API), Whistl, DHL, Deutsche Post and Amazon Easy Ship, and sends tracking back to eBay, Amazon and your other channels automatically. Multi-carrier order fulfilment.
- Send each order the right way without deciding by hand. Courier rules pick the service by size, weight, marketplace, order value and destination postcode, so you can change one rule for December, for example sending every order over a certain value by Tracked 24.
- Pick faster. Orders are sorted by shelf for one walk round the warehouse, and a barcode scan at packing confirms the right item goes in the right parcel.
- Answer "where's my parcel?" quickly. For eBay messages, templates fill in the buyer's name and an estimated delivery date from the tracking. Customer service portal.
If December is when your dispatch process starts to creak, it's a good time to see how it could run. Book a demo and we'll show you Prolisto with orders like yours.
